We consider the sustainable sourcing of plants to be an important part of our business strategy. Together with our suppliers we are working hard on the transition to a fully sustainable production of our wide range of plants. Hamiplant (our parent company) / DFG is one of the founding fathers of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). This supply chain initiative aims to improve the sustainability of the floriculture sector.
WHAT DOES FSI DO?
All affiliated individual FSI companies make a structural contribution with their purchase data. In addition, certification bodies worldwide share the certificate status of nurseries. This scan has made it possible to measure sustainable production and purchasing. 2020 objective: 90% sustainable purchasing. Price Waterhouse Coopers audit the entire process.
WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE PURCHASING?
It is purchasing in accordance with sustainable certification requirements. All growers are required to have environmental certificate. Growers from high-risk countries must also have a social certificate. Recognised certificates are shown in the diagram.

We are also looking for opportunities to work in a responsible way within our company. After all, all resources are precious.
- Since 2011 we have been heating 17,000 sq metres of packaging space and 3,000 sq metres of office space by making use of residual heat from adjacent businesses. No gas connection is required.
- We reduce our power consumption thanks to a smart climate and lighting system, as well as LED lighting.
- We reuse residual waste by collecting and separating green, cardboard and plastic waste.
- We reduce plastic waste (8 bags per day) by buying mugs and Dopper water bottles for all employees.
