Sustainability
Duijn-Hove employs various innovative and sustainable methods to make plant cultivation more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. This integrated approach contributes significantly to a more sustainable future. Here’s how they do it in practice:
- Reuse of residual heat: By using the residual heat from a nearby grower, energy is saved and local collaboration is fostered.
- Second cultivation layer: Creating a second cultivation layer optimizes the use of available space and reduces energy consumption for heating.
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP): Using a CHP system, both electricity and heat are produced, resulting in significant energy savings.
- Heat pump: Using a heat pump reduces gas consumption and increases the use of sustainable electricity.
- Heat storage: Excess heat in the summer is stored for use in the winter, and vice versa. This ensures more efficient energy use.
- Biological crop protection: As much as possible, natural pesticides are used to keep the plants healthy with minimal environmental impact.
