Ten Have Plant
Grower of the month
The family run business Ten Have Plant has a long history. Over 100 years ago, the family's grandfather reallocated to the east of the Netherlands to establish himself in the Westland. While initially focusing on small fruits, the first steps into potted plants was taken in the 1950s. Nowadays, they specialize in Campanulas and produce 2,300,000 Campanulas annually in 7 different varieties.

What does Ten Have Plant cultivate?

The company's focus is on cultivating Campanulas. Additionally, they also cultivate Cyclamens. The cultivation of the plants is divided into two periods:
- From week 2 to week 40, focus on the cultivation of the Campanulas.
- From week 40 to week 3, focus on the cultivation on Picasso Cyclamens. In addition to this silver-leaved super series, the focus shifts towards red and white for Christmas.

What are the most popular product(s)?

The main and most popular plant is the Campanula Porto Longlife, accounting for a significant 60% of the production. The Portenslagiana and the Isophylla, the Campanula variety known as the 'Star of Bethlehem,' are exclusively cultivated by Ten Have in the Netherlands.

Where do the young plants come from?

All Campanulas come from their own breeding and propagation. The ongoing breeding program ensures a continuous exploration of new cultivars, with a focus on improving durability and sustainability.

How does the cultivation process of the Campanula unfold, and what are the biggest challenges?

A cutting is taken from the mother plant and is then placed in a tray with growing fertalisation. After the cutting has rooted successfully, it is transferred to a larger pot. The plant continues to grow in this pot until it blooms. Throughout this growth process, each phase is meticulously monitored, including the amount of light and warmth, as well as the required humidity. These factors have various effects on each Campanula species. The greatest challenge lies in managing all these factors to ensure the end product is of high quality. Providing stable availability is also a challenge in this process.

What makes Ten Have exclusive?

The company employs special air treatment machines with lower energy consumption, providing the right cultivation conditions. They use geothermal energy to heat the greenhouses, all lighting is LED, and they have two heat pumps. All cultivation pots are made from recycled materials, and various plastic-free and reusable packaging options are offered. Finally, the facility generates its own electricity, optimizing the utilization of residual heat.
